THE MUTANT INDEX

This index contains basic lore and descriptions of the human mutant varieties present on PV's Earth.

MUTATION TYPES

There are two types of mutations: Standard, and Vomic

Standard mutations are mild mutations. Standard mutations do not severely impact one's cognitive function or ability to live a full life.
Although some may end up with traits that impact their physical ability, the mutant will still be humanoid and fully sapient.
All humans are born as standard mutants, but all have the capacity to become vomic mutants.

Vomic mutations are severe mutations that cause the mutant to become fully inhuman - physically and mentally.
Vomic mutants are known for their erratic, unpredictable behavior; and extreme, irrational aggression towards both humans and animals.
Vomic mutants are highly dangerous, and as far as anyone knows, vomic mutations are permanent. Vomic mutations
can be caused by either: possessing a gene that triggers spontaneous vomic mutation at any point in life, or by direct exposure
to vomica.

Standard mutants are categorized into strains, based on both their genetics and their physical traits.

These are the bare minimum required traits for ALL mutants:
pointed ears (can be any length)
clawed hands + feet
unnatural eye color(s)
and elongated fang-like canines or fully sharp teeth.

These traits are optional for all mutants:
unnatural skin tones
body markings
anything else that makes sense for the strain

GOBELIN STRAIN
Of all the human strains, gobelins look the least mutated. Aside from the bare minimum required traits and any of the
universally optional traits... They can have tails. But that's about it.

CHIMAERA STRAIN
The chimaera strain is basically the "miscellaneous" strain. Chimaeras cannot be categorized as any other strain;
either because they possess traits from too many different strains at once, or they simply do not fall into any
other existing category.

DUOSTRAIN
Duostrain people possess traits from two different strains at once. Duostraining is rare. A child inheriting only one
of their parents' strains is more common - but it does happen (hence why this is here).

DEVILBORNE STRAIN
Devilbornes, or "devils" for short, possess horns, sharp teeth, long tails (can have a spade tip), and hooved feet
(legs can be plantigrade or digitigrade). They have long tongues that can either be split or pointed at the tip.

HYSTRIX STRAIN
The hystrix mutation causes spines/spikes to grow anywhere on the hystrix person's body. Hystrices must have 12
spines at minimum. When their spines are venomous, they are instead considered "echinoid" mutants. The
echinoid strain is considered a hystrix variant rather than an entirely separate mutation.

MUSCOID STRAIN
The muscoid strain is the only strain known to cause the development of insect traits. Muscoids must, at minimum;
have 2 pairs of arms (4 total), compound eyes, antennae, and a pair of fly-like wings + halteres.

THERIAN STRAIN
Therians are often mistaken for animals that evolved to be anthropomorphic (like Australia's "roomans"), but they're
actually the opposite! Therians are humans that developed small animal-like noses & muzzles, ears that point upwards,
and tails. Therians do NOT have furred bodies and instead retain their human skin.
